PositionWaste Management Consultant

Work as a member of a project team, or where appropriate, lead waste management projects in accordance with Studsvik UK management arrangements, as well as the requirements of clients.  To provide technical environmental, waste management and characterisation services in support of all aspects of the Company’s business and fulfil specific contracts.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Functionally accountable to the Consultancy Services Manager for the successful delivery of assigned projects within the cost, technical and HSE constraints imposed
  • Provide relevant input into business winning and development elements as required

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out projects and tasks as allocated where SQEP
  • Provide support and technical assistance where SQEP
  • Liaise with relevant personnel to ensure satisfactory completion of contracts with respect to characterisation, environmental and other relevant aspects
  • Production of documentation in support of contracts and tenders
  • Assist in the development of the Studsvik UK Consultancy business
  • Production of documentation in support of contracts and tenders
  • Advise management on environmental legislative compliance and best practice
  • Assist management in business development and winning
  • Training - internal and external
  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance within Studsvik UK Limited Management Systems
  • Liaise with the Assurance Manager to ensure environmental compliance and report accordingly, when required to do so
  • Liaise with suppliers, clients and regulators
  • Assist in the compilation of case history documentation
  • Delivery of Studsvik UK consultancy services in a manner that is compliant with established arrangements, assured, safe and in accordance with Studsvik UK Assurance arrangements
  • Provide a monthly performance report with respect to project
  • Produce documentation to support and attendance at project review, if appropriate
  • Completion of employment development reviews where appropriate
  • Promote Studsvik values, mission and vision statements as well as Assurance policies
  • Liaise with other Studsvik UK management and employees where relevant and appropriate
  • Provision of environmental advice to management as relevant to all aspects of the Company’s business, this could include but not be limited to:
    • EIA
    • IPC/IPPC
    • Safety Case/IPR
    • BPEO/BPM
    • Contaminated Land
    • Waste Management
    • Regulatory Advice
    • Waste characterisation

Education and Qualifications

  • Suitable Science, Engineering and Environmental Degree
  • Membership of Relevant Professional Body (IEMA, IOSH, RSC etc.)
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation and ISO standard including EPR 11, Environmental Permitting Regulations, Transfrontier Shipment Regulations
  • Knowledge of Radiation Protection issues

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge and practical experience of relevant UK and International legislation and guidance including RSA 1993, EPR, TFS, waste legislation
  • Practical experience of radioactive waste management, waste characterisation and analytical techniques
  • Knowledge and understanding of nuclear industry and specifically environmental challenges
  • Knowledge and understanding of risk assessment methodology
  • Knowledge and understanding of modern safety case and specifically environmental requirements
  • Knowledge, understanding and practical experience of BPEO, BPM and BAT
  • Experience of Resource and Project Management
